The 10 Safest Neighborhoods In El Paso, TX (2025)

A local, boots-on-the-ground look at where El Paso families feel safest — plus how to decide which area is right for you.
By: Yvonne Russell, Russell Realtor
Updated: October 26, 2025
Based on FBI crime reports and neighborhood-level data for El Paso, TX.

El Paso is one of the safest large metros in the country, but every city has pockets that feel a little quieter and more comfortable than others. If you’re moving with kids, downsizing, or just want a neighborhood where you can exhale at the end of the day, this guide is for you.

Using crime-rate data and local insight, I’ve put together a simple breakdown of El Paso’s safest neighborhoods, what the numbers mean, and how to use this information when you’re shopping for a home.

Table Of Contents: Top 10 | Methodology | Summary | Full List

#1 Safest Neighborhood In El Paso

Borderland

Safety Score: 9.5 / 10
Population: 2,005 Violent Crime / 100k: 1,144 Property Crime / 100k: 12,053

Borderland sits on the far west side and feels more like a quiet pocket community than part of a big city. You’ll see established homes, slower streets, and neighbors who actually know each other. If you want a low-key area with quick access to I-10 and New Mexico, this is a great place to start your search.

#2 Safest Neighborhood In El Paso

Lower Valley covers a broad, residential stretch along the river. It’s popular with families who want a traditional neighborhood feel, mature trees, and everyday conveniences within a short drive. Homes here can be more budget-friendly compared to the far west side.

#3 Safest Neighborhood In El Paso

Coronado

Safety Score: 9.0 / 10

Coronado hugs the foothills and offers gorgeous views, established subdivisions, and quick access to shopping and dining along the west side. It’s an attractive option if you’re after highly regarded schools and a more suburban lifestyle.

#4 Safest Neighborhood In El Paso

Las Palmas

Safety Score: 8.8 / 10
Population: 1,628 Violent Crime / 100k: 232 Property Crime / 100k: 1,117

Las Palmas is small, quiet, and tucked away. Think well-kept streets, neighbors who pay attention, and a slower pace of life — ideal if you’re prioritizing peace and privacy above everything else.

#5 Safest Neighborhood In El Paso

Mission Hills

Safety Score: 8.7 / 10
Population: 3,772 Violent Crime / 100k: 235 Property Crime / 100k: 1,134

Castner Heights

Safety Score: 8.1 / 10
Population: 1,316 Violent Crime / 100k: 304 Property Crime / 100k: 1,464

#10 Safest Neighborhood In El Paso

Mesa Hills

Safety Score: 7.6 / 10
Population: 9,717 Violent Crime / 100k: 325 Property Crime / 100k: 1,566

Mesa Hills is a centrally located west-side neighborhood with quick access to restaurants, shopping, and major roads. It balances convenience with relatively low crime and a strong owner-occupant presence.

Methodology: How These El Paso Neighborhoods Were Ranked For Safety

Instead of guessing, we look at the same thing you’d look at if you were buying an investment property: hard numbers. This ranking is based primarily on the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Reporting data for El Paso neighborhoods, focusing on:

  • Total crime per capita
  • Violent crime per capita
  • Property crime per capita

Each neighborhood is scored and ranked on these factors, then combined into a simple safety index. Lower crime rates mean a better (safer) score. From there, I add local context — schools, parks, road access, and how the area actually feels when you drive or walk it.

Summary: Safest Places In El Paso (And How To Choose)

Borderland, Lower Valley, Coronado, Las Palmas, Mission Hills, Montoya Heights, Castner Heights, Album Park, Upper Valley, and Mesa Hills all stand out for relatively low crime and strong day-to-day livability.

That said, every El Paso neighborhood has streets that feel a little safer or a little rougher than the averages. The best way to know for sure is to pair the data with an in-person visit and a local guide who knows where people actually want to live.

Thinking About Moving To One Of These Neighborhoods?

I help buyers and sellers relocate in and around El Paso — especially military families and folks downsizing into a lower-maintenance lifestyle. If you’re trying to decide between neighborhoods or want to see homes in any of these areas, I’d be happy to walk you through it.
